The wild nature of Hong Kong comes as a big surprise.
The wild nature of Hong Kong clearly needs an introduction. It offers a number of unexpected out of town adventures.
As Hong Kong is gradually opening again late 2020, we thought we would show you some of the beautiful nature of Hong Kong:
But is there any nature not to say “wild nature”, is it not just buildings that almost reach the sky all the way? For most people, Hong Kong means a very densely populated “vertical city”. A busy metropolis with some of the world’s tallest buildings gathered in a relatively small area with just over 7 million inhabitants.
Wild nature is not really an exaggeration, you will find hundreds of islands, tall mountains, and lush golf courses, not to mention wide beaches only approachable by boat. This may well change your view of Hong Kong.
Mountain hiking is very popular near Hong Kong
It is not wrong, but just outside of Hong Kong there is actually a beautiful scenery from pristine beaches to the hills of the hinterland with well-marked trails for mountain tours, mountain hiking or bike rides. There is even a geopark in Hong Kong on the UNESCO Heritage list.
The busy metropolis of Hong Kong has more than 40 percent of its land laid out as protected green areas. This is new to most people. In addition to providing a habitat for a myriad of flora and fauna, the countryside is home to highly interesting rock formations and other geological phenomena. Most of these sites are in close proximity to the city, so visitors can easily reach them for a rewarding and educational outdoor experience, perhaps after a few days in the busy metropolis. The National Geopark was accepted as a UNESCO site in 2015.
So there is actually a lot to see and experience – outside of Hong Kong. Come and see Hong Kong’s wild nature.
River rafting or swimming in the sea outside Hong Kong
There are a few people out here. They are almost all busy in the City. On weekends, however, they go out and enjoy the wild nature of Hong Kong and have a good lunch with family and friends.
Well-marked River rafting tours are another option, visiting one of several national parks, or whatever with a canoe trip just outside of Hong Kong. And then a little fringe for golf because it shows Hong Kong’s nature from its best side:
Golfing in Hong Kong with wild boars keeping score?
For golfers, there are actually 7-8 fantastic courses, when we count more than one course in the same club. From the famous The Hong Kong Golf Club (2 private golf courses), which host the annual major golf tournament The Hong Kong Open.
But we suggest the less obvious option: the highly-rated golf course Kau Sai Chou, approx. 45 mins, from Hong Kong by taxi (can be done cheaply) and from there with a short free boat ride (if you are going to golf) to a truly beautiful island with 3 x 18 hole highly qualified and beautiful courses. Especially North course out of 3 good courses can be recommended. The courses have several interested parties: They are also visited by wild boars swimming here from the neighboring islands to find food, but they do not enter the golf courses themselves. Kau Sai Chau is owned by The Hong Kong Jockey Club, which is the club behind the huge horse track in the middle of Hong Kong. Well worth a visit. Hong Kong’s residents are deeply involved in equestrian sports and huge amounts are spent on each race.
A day in the wild nature of Hong Kong
You can get a first impression of Hong Kong’s nature here. See the personal account, as it is passed on here by an Englishman living in Hong Kong who has been living there for many years, and therefore the city and nature outside the city know in and out.
It takes a little time, so much better, so put the coffee and enjoy!
