Here is the airport´s own description of the services it offers:
Lisbon Airport opened on 15th October 1942
Since it started with four runways, each one kilometer long, it has expanded considerably and currently has sixteen jet runways. As Portugal was a neutral country during World War II, the airport was used by both Axis Powers (Germany, Italy, and Japan) and the Allied Forces during this period. Since then Lisbon Airport has undergone upgrades on several occasions with major airlines using it over the years.
Lisbon Airport is located 7 km north of the capital Lisbon. This strategic location makes it easy for you to get to your hotel fairly easily. The airport handled over 13 million passengers in 2009. The strategic location of Lisbon Airport gives it an advantage over other airports, both in Portugal and in Europe in general.
The airport´s comfortable facilities ensure that passengers are well taken care of during their journey. Restaurants, duty-free shops, left luggage and baby care facilities, as well as meeting rooms, are just a few of the facilities available at the airport. Lisbon Airport is also disabled-user friendly.
Due to the airport´s proximity to the city, the center is only a short ride away by bus or taxi – and both are hassle-free, whatever your preference.
In order to handle the ever increasing passenger traffic, a second terminal was added to Lisbon Airport in 2007, including new boarding gates, air bridges and parking positions to facilitate smooth handling of the increased volume.
