Singapore Changi Airport is named the World’s Best Airport 2023, with Hamad International Airport, Doha, in 2nd place and Tokyo Haneda Airport ranked 3rd, so Singapore Airport did it again! And it is, in fact, the 12th time altogether, since the World Airport Award for the world´s best airport was introduced in 2000. And make no mistake – that´s not an achievement to be taken lightly. It requires millions of votes, but airport customers have had their say. More about this to follow.
Attentive readers may be asking themselves – so who came in second and third? Asian airports swept the board here, too, with South Korea’s Incheon International Airport and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport winning the second and third categories respectively. More about those later.
The 2018 World Airport Awards were based on no fewer than 13.82 million air travelers´ nominations from 105 nationalities with 550 airports to choose from. An overall weighted assessment covers customer satisfaction and a number of key airport service facilities that make up the total airport experience including such things as check-in, arrival, transfers, shopping, security, and immigration procedures to a rating on how smoothly the departure was handled and the overall departure experience. In other words, the survey covers the whole spectrum of the airport experience as a whole.
If you are flying with Singapore Airlines, you will arrive here. Read more about Singapore Airlines. Their daily departures to Singapore and Changi offer the chance to enjoy the” perfect layover”, before continuing on the other destinations in South-eastern Asia.
It´s no coincidence that Changi can compete at such a high level and maintain a level of quality that would make any Michelin restaurant or top athlete green with envy. It requires a relentless focus on providing quality customer service to create the ultimate customer experience, as Mr. Lee Seow Hiang, CEO of Changi Airport Group describes, ”Winning the Skytrax “World’s Best Airport” Award for the 12 consecutive year is a fabulous gesture of recognition for the 50,000 employees who work at Changi Airport. Everyone is driven by a passion to provide the most positive and memorable airport experience possible. ”
One good example of this is that each terminal has its own theme demonstrated through the use of specially selected plants and trees, flowers and vegetation. It is the only airport in the world where you can enjoy a true botanical experience between flights!
Terminal 1 is a good example: Here, you can visit the rooftop garden with over 100 species of cacti and plants that can tolerate the most extreme, desert-like conditions. Most originate typically from Asia, Africa or America At the heart of this garden oasis, you´ll find a bar where you can chill out or maybe catch a few rays!
The garden also features a large collection of Cycads, an ancient species – that has survived since the Jurassic period – a species that includes bushes and trees that resemble palms but, botanically, are a totally different species. We are more familiar with the name ”sago palm”.
