Belek – your own Mediterranean beach paradise and own golf mecca
Belek enjoys a fantastic location – right out to the Mediterranean, approx. 30 km. from the region´s largest city, Antalya. The area has been voted either the best or one of the best vacation destinations in Turkey a number of times. It is extremely popular. It is the preferred destination of many tourists due to its excellent facilities and top class attractions. Golfers will undoubtedly be familiar with it due to the sheer number of excellent courses the area offers. The area includes no less than 15 large clubs and golfing resorts, all with excellent facilities – not only for playing but also for enjoying the spectacular natural surroundings. Several new courses are under construction. There are also plenty of interesting attractions to visit near the town.
Belek blends the ancient with the modern
Even though it is practically around the corner from the ancient Anatolian cities of Perga and Aspendos, Belek was actually planned as a purpose-built vacation resort from day one to satisfy the needs of the golfing and luxury vacation market. Construction started in the 1980’s. Some less expensive apartments and smaller hotels are available further inland in this area and in the nearby village of Kadriye, but the majority of vacation accommodation consists of top quality, luxury 4 and 5-star hotels. Luxury is what visitors to this area come for – and, here, they can relax and be pampered at still affordable prices. The emphasis here is more about relaxing in comfort rather than having a true Turkish experience, although this can also be highly recommended.
The beach in Belek
Belek has one of the finest beaches on the entire Turkish coast: 16 km of pristine, powdery white sand fringed by pine trees that provide welcome shade, and gently undulating hills that lead down to the turquoise sea. It´s also the perfect playground for children. The green sea turtles, that come to lay their eggs in the protected areas of the beach like it, too. Although the beach is public, it feels more like a private beach that belongs to the hotel resorts that line the beach. Most of them offer their guests a variety of water sport activities.
There´s a sport for everyone in Belek
The region was established to promote golfing, and to take advantage of the fabulous beach lying along the Mediterranean. There are currently approx. 15 golf courses available, and more are planned. It is very seldom that such excellent golf facilities also lie adjacent to such a beautiful coast, one that also includes interesting attractions for those visitors who are not golfers. What many probably do not realize is that the area also offers world-class football facilities that attract top league European football teams to their training camps. There is also an excellent tennis training school as well. To top it all off, the nearby bird sanctuary and scenic areas of wildflowers are worth a visit, too.
More to explore in Belek and its surroundings
Spend a day in Antalya; visit the lovely, ancient quarter with its designer boutiques and lovely restaurants, but don´t forget to include a visit to the Antalya Museum, which houses many of the priceless relics from the magnificent Greco –Roman cities of Perga and Aspendos and the well-preserved amphitheatre, both located very close to Belek.
The town of Side is a magical spot with its antique ruins and Temple of Apollo that frames the sunset over the golden sands perfectly. Further south is Alanya with its enormous Ottoman castle and Damlatas Caves. Inland, Koprulu Canyon National Park is also worth a visit for its areas of wild, natural beauty.
