ITA is the new Alitalia with all the adjustments it requires. After being in operation for 74 years, Italy’s flag carrier Alitalia could no longer offer its services as it has been closed forever after deep economic problems in 2020-21, particularly caused by the COVID-19 situation.
Alitalia’s flight from the Italian capital to Cagliari marked the last flight for this flagship, while the same will from now on be replaced by Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA), reports SchengenVisaInfo.com.

Italia Trasporto Aereo is the new national airline in Italy. In this regard, the President of ITA Airways, Alfredo Altavilla, stressed that “We have been born as a new Italian brand and we have chosen to work only with Italian companies,” as reported by CNN.
Over the last 20 years, Alitalia has cost the country almost 13 billion euros. The spread of Coronavirus eventually triggered a devastating situation for the company.
Due to the difficult situation caused by the virus, ITA employed only approx. 2,800 of its employees, while a large number of employees faced unemployment.
Authorities in Italy have confirmed that ITA will be owned by the country’s government. The airline plans to launch with 52 jets, while the number of aircraft will increase to 105 by the end of 2025.
